Award winning group, The Walking Theatre Company provided ‘the wow’ factor at the launch of one of Argyll’s National Homecoming events ‘Spirit of the West’ last Friday at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar. The intrepid guests, including the Duchess of Argyll and Charles McLean travelled back into a slice of Argylls whisky history gamely joining a party of smugglers. Their frolics were rudely interrupted by the arrival of a burly excise man threatening violence. Fortunately our unwanted guest, a Mr Robert Burns, clearly had a soft spot for the ladies and the love of a ‘wee wager’ and it was easy to persuade him to turn a blind eye to any illicit whisky that may, or may not have been found and the party continued.
The Whisky Walk, one the The Walking Theatre Companies signal theatre works, supported in its creation by the Heritage Lottery fund will be performed in the grounds of Inveraray Castle as one of the many events on offer over the ‘Spirit of the West’ festival 17th & 18th May. A truly great family weekend with something for everyone on offer.
