The Walking Theatre Company

Summer is full swing, and here at TWTC, we love it! We’ve had a lot of fun this July, travelling all over, doing what we do best – performing our unique brand of interactive outdoor ‘walking’ theatre! Read on to find out what fun we have been having in the sun, and where we’ll be in August!

TWTC at the NRTF

This month, our Artistic Director, Sadie Dixon-Spain, travelled to Stirling to attend the National Rural Touring Forum event at the Macrobert centre. It was s great networking opportunity, and Sadie was able to meet a variety of performance companies and presenter organizations from all around the UK and beyond! Here at TWTC HQ, we are having a great time connecting with contacts from the Forum, and have some great plans in the works for TWTC in 2014! Watch this space!

Murder, Mystery, and a whole lot of fun!

A ‘Wiz Around’ … Glendaruel!

On Saturday, 13th of July, The Walking Theatre Company was thrilled to be a part of the Colintraive and Glendaruel Development Trust’s ‘Forest Celebration Day’ – a fun-filled day of events for the community and visitors to get involved in, to celebrate the Trust’s recent purchase of Stronafian Forest for the community!

Munchkins, well-beheaved grown-ups, and even a few canine creatures, joined Dorothy on a ‘Wiz Around Oz’, where we travelled through the forest, meeting an array of characters along the way! The Lion was Cowardly, the Scarecrow didn’t know which way to go, and the Great Wiz saved us from the Wicked Witch!

The sun shone brightly on our journey through Glendaruel, and Dorothy, fit with her sparkly red welly boots (well, she was in Scotland!) made sure everyone was home in time for tea!

Thank you to the Colintraive and Glendaruel Development Trust for inviting us along to help celebrate with the community! For more info, visit www.cgdt.org.

Put ’em up! The Cowardly Lion that dwells in the Glen.

A fond farewell!

Our Canadian Walking Youth Theatre are safely back in their home Province of Manitoba, and my, do we miss them!

We were thrilled to have the group visit us in Scotland, and from what we have heard, they had a fantastic time exploring our beautiful country!

Following their fabulous performance at Holyrood, the team travelled to the stunning Western Isle of Lismore, where they performed “Selkirk’s New Nation” with Sadie Dixon-Spain and Colin Little from TWTC on Sunday 30th of June.

The performance began outside the Lismore Gaelic Heritage Centre, and took both cast and audience on a walking journey across the picturesque landscape.

Here at TWTC HQ, we look forward to working with the Canadian Walking Youth Theatre in the very near future…we are already planning our next adventure to Canada…look out world, TWTC is coming for you!

Ahoy there, Lancaster Pirates!

Jim ‘lad’ Hawkins and Long John Silver (usually known as TWTC’s very own Paul Kozinski and Colin Little!) travelled across the border and arrived at Lancaster Castle for a fun-filled weekend of pirates and treasure! Lancaster Castle hosted a variety of workshops and pirate-themed events for families over the weekend of the 27th and 28th of July, and very kindly invited TWTC to be involved in the fun and games!

Our two braw pirates performed Treasure Island to audiences throughout the weekend, and even found some treasure…of the chocolate variety!

Big thank you to Lancaster Castle for being such wonderful hosts, and to all our new pirate friends who came along! Hope to come back and perform in Lancaster again soon!

Festival of Frolics!

A whole host of mysterious characters have been let loose at Greenback House and Gardens in East Renfrewshire, and we are relying on YOU to help the staff get everything under control!

The Festival of Frolics is in town, and here at TWTC we are thrilled to me a part of the madcap adventures that will be unfolding on the 10th and 11th of August 2013!

Produced by our friends at Culture Creative, who were also to thank for Electric Glen earlier on in the year, are back in Scotland, and with an impending riot of fun and frolics, have called on TWTC and a number of other crazy companies to join in the madness!

Join us for the most upbeat, crazy adventure East Renfrewshire has ever seen!

A trip to ‘Wonder-Lomand’!

The sun was shining on Loch Lomond Shores on the 21st of July, which gave TWTC a perfect Summer backdrop for our outdoor theatre adventure, ‘The White Rabbit’s Treasure Hunt’!

Our furry friend, The White Rabbit, took us on a madcap walking tour through the beautiful trails at Loch Lomond, where we bumped into a few familiar faces along the way!

The Hatter appeared as we strolled through the woodlands – what a very strange man he is! Our Door Mice (Mouses? Mooses? Meeces? Mices?) friends who joined us on the adventure kept an eye on the crazy man, and made sure he didn’t do anything too silly!

The Red Queen joined her loyal subjects at the Lochside, and was a little sneezey, even though there were no children around…promise! Only Door Mice! Good thing the White Rabbit was on hand to help Her Majesty!

Big thanks to the lovely folk at Loch Lomond Shores who invited us along to spread a little Summer fun in the form of outdoor theatre on the bonnie, bonnie banks!

We’ll be back at the Loch TOMORROW and SATURDAY, 1st and 3rd of August with another two performances to celebrate National Park Week – Whisky Galorious and the Celtic Tree Walk!

Look forward to walking with you there!

Actors Spotlight

This month, we are taking a break from shouting from the rooftops how wonderful and fabulous our actors are, and introducing you to another valued member of the TWTC team.

Found at TWTC HQ, he’s a handsome chap, with a very expressive face, a very loud voice, and he is most definitely one of those characters everyone notices when he walks in a room…

Meet Bartie!

TWTC ruff-est fan!
