a great start to 2010 saw tonights first murder at the Argyll hotel in Dunoon. Our very intrepid audience who, as I type are strutting their stuff in the night haunts of that perky seaside town, were a most excellent audience really getting into the spirit of the event, several ladies offered their husbands as victims and one game gentleman proposed to Lady Mary Campbell, to the game delight of his wife! Who Dun it? That would be telling, some guessed and some didn’t but all had a great time. Thanks to you all, we just couldn’t do it without you.

Plans were afoot at Dunollie today as a squelching spring walk around the site opened up the vision of the grounds for the Dunollie Homecoming event ‘The Hidden Jewel’ Sadie Dixon-Spain and Liam Calgie met with Catherine Gillies (Dunollie’s project manager) and her lovely assistant ‘Richard’ today at Dunollie house to site the walk for the event. A glorious spring day with snow drops bursting from the banks and magnificent views out across the Firth of Lorne from the old ruined Dunollie castle. From this breathtaking site we could easily imagine the North Atlantic convoy ships mustering or feel the echoes of King Harkon of Norway’s troops gathering ready for the battle of Largs. A place seeped in moving history and vision of Scotlands past and present. No finer setting to bring to life the voices of the MacDougal family history and to boot in the kitchen garden pond, the most extraordinary collection of frogspawn that any of us had ever seen. An inspiring and thoughtful morning for us all.

Tickets for the HIDDEN JEWEL go for sale online!

The Year of Homecoming 2009 will be on us in just a few weeks, and you can now book your tickets for The Hidden Jewel theatre event at Dunollie.

Buy your tickets by going to our website at www.dunollie.org or pasting the following link into your browser: http://www.dunollie.org/homecoming.html. If you run a website, please add this link to it.

In a few days time you will be able to book your place at the formal dinner, and we will also ask you to tell us what other events you might like to attend during the Homecoming week at Dunollie. If there is sufficient interest we will lay on guided bus tours, walking tours to Gylen and so on.

You will also shortly be able to find and book accomodation via our website, and it will be the best place for information to plan your own Clan MacDougall itinerary for the week with information on castles, history and suggested outings.

I am delighted to say that despite the financial crisis we are getting a good number of enquiries for the Dunollie events from the US and Canada, and several people are planning to spend a full week here . We will reward your fortutide by making sure it is all fun! We are certainly getting excited at this end already.

And by the way – thankyou to those who emailed positive feedback about our new and ever expanding website. In case you are wondering, the kilt in the website header is none other than the esteemed husband of our Chief, Richard Morley, photographed at the splendid event to reopen Gylen Castle after its consolidation project. He wears it well!
