A community with a unique history and an active community, Neilston was looking to draw together and find a way to raise profile and awareness of its mill history and most notably raise awareness at local government level of its surviving historical mill buildings and community spaces created by the rising tide of industrialisation from the late 18th Century.

With Heritage Lottery Funding as part of the ‘Living History and Beyond’ project, The Walking Theatre Company has created a village walk that tells the tale of buildings, environment and the people that came to Neilston from past to its present day. An interactive tale that leads audiences around the mill buildings and mill spaces, premiered as part of the Neilston Live Festival. This exciting project is also extending into in both of Neilston’s primary schools. Children will have the opportunity to explore their own roots through the expressive arts and the village walk themes.
