Selkirk’s New Nation – Manitoba, Canada
Inspired by the forgotten voices of cleared Highlanders and their mixed-race, first nation children, this momentous collaborative project brought together Scotland’s Walking Theatre Company and pupils of Ecole Powerview School in Canada.
With the incredible history of Power View-Pine Falls as the inspiration for a specially commissioned ‘Walking Theatre’ play, the pupils alongside TWTC’s professional team brought history to life, exploring a diverse heritage, and creating an often forgetten international connection.
Performances took place across Manitoba, as well as in Scotland on the Isle of Lismore and at The Scottish Parliament, and presented to members of Lord Selkirk’s family .
SPARC – Haliburton Highlands, Canada
The Walking Theatre Company were invited to speak and perform at the Symposium for Performing Arts in Rural Communities in the stunning Haliburton Highlands in Ontario, Canada in 2014, following the huge success of our Selkirks New Nation production in Manitoba. The engagement introduced TWTC to the wonderful work taking place in Canada’s rural communities, a brilliant networking opportnity, and vital international connections between Scottish and Canadian performing arts professionals.
